A story about trust, kindness, and two neighbors who showed up.
A few years ago, I needed to travel for a family event during a difficult time in my life. Pet sitting had become an unexpected expense, so I reached out to my local community to see if anyone would be willing to exchange pet care.
To my surprise, two neighbors I had never met offered to help. Thanks to their kindness, I was able to make my trip with peace of mind. Even today, I'm incredibly grateful for what they did for me.
My dogs were cared for with so much love, and they even became friends with their dogs. What gave me even more peace of mind was knowing they were staying in a neighbor's home—not a boarding facility with unfamiliar dogs. I knew exactly who was caring for them, what kind of environment they were in, and which dogs they would be spending time with. Being cared for by someone in my own neighborhood made it feel far more personal and trustworthy.
It wasn't just about saving money—it was about neighbors helping each other, building genuine friendships, and creating happy memories for our pets.
That experience inspired me to create Loulu.
Loulu is built on a simple idea: neighbors helping neighbors. Instead of paying every time you need pet care, you can help someone else's pet when you're available, earn Lu points, and use those points whenever you need care yourself.
We're also exploring new ways for Lu to support pets beyond pet sitting, giving members more meaningful ways to use the Lu they earn while helping build a stronger pet-loving community.
We believe trusted communities can make pet care more affordable, more personal, and more rewarding—for everyone.
